ISIS in Spain

Seven suspects of Syrian, Jordanian and Moroccan descent were detained in regions near the Spanish port cities of Alicante, Valencia, and Ceuta on the North African coast under suspicion of providing logistical support – including the providing of weapons and other material – to ISIS and Jabhat al Nusra…

laSexta (Feb. 7) – Los yihadistas detenidos en Alicante, Valencia y Ceuta suministraban armas y material militar a Daesh

Later it was reported that Spanish officials had seized 20,000 military uniforms, disguised as second hand clothes, purportedly intended for use by the jihadists in Syria and Iraq…

The origin of the material or of the three shipping containers in which the uniforms were discovered was not disclosed in these press reports, as officials were still investigating – only to say they did not originate in Spain (International Business Times). Feb 15, 2016, 22:04 UTC – BILBAO, SPAIN

Feb 06, 2016, 05:03 UTC – VALENCIA, SPAIN

As noted in the above laSexta report, the initial anti-jihadist operation took place on February 7th, the day after the Mecid Aslanov was in Valencia. As we noted in our post of January 21, the Mecid Aslanov had passed through the Suez on Jan. 17 after a period of irregular navigation through the Red Sea. We can only speculate what other items besides oil the tanker may have picked up in Sudan or perhaps in Saudi Arabia, then dispersing these to the Ukraine in late January, anchoring in Malta with its sister ship Armada Fair on February 1st, before both proceeded towards ports in Spain and France in the month of February.
